- Used to prevent solid masses in extracted milk (dirt, udder tissues, nipple calluses, mastitis clots etc.) from passing into milk refrigeration tanks.
- Filters sealed by stitched seams that offer greater resistance than glued seams (sealed with adhesive).
- Also known as "paper" filters.
- They are placed in cartridges or spirals inside press ferrules, usually stainless steel, at the end of the general milk line, before the milk enters the refrigeration tank.
- A filter is affixed prior to each milking operation and discarded after milking (as many filters are used as milking operations are performed).
